What we do

Who we are
Berkshire West Primary Care Alliance is a GP federation (a group of practices working together within a legal form or organised entity).
Over the past 10 years the reasoning for GPs to federate has grown stronger as a means for practices to develop and tender for services, particularly out-of-hospital care. Additionally, it has enabled achievement of economies of scale within primary care services – such as back-office functions, training and development capacity.
Berkshire West Primary Care Alliance was formed in 2023 and is a collaboration of 30 NHS GP practices across three local authority areas: West Berkshire, Reading, and Wokingham, collectively known as Berkshire West.
Latest News
It’s been another busy and productive month across Berkshire West. The team has been out and about, attending key conferences, while the ICB has shared further updates on Online Consultation and the Obesity LCS. Our colleagues from RBFT joined the PCN and Practice meeting to support a strategy refresh, and the GetUBetter team were also on hand to promote their MSK self-management app, all while we awaited the long-anticipated 10-Year Plan from NHS England.
We were pleased to host a well-attended in-person members’ meeting at the Orida Hotel in Newbury. A big thank you to our partners at Buywise Health, who generously sponsored the event and gave an overview of their tailored procurement services. Since partnering with BWPCA in 2024, Buywise has been supporting practices across Berkshire West with a centralised procurement platform, offering cost savings, consolidated invoicing, and spend analysis to reduce admin burden and enhance CQC readiness.
This month also marked a proud moment for BWPCA as Dr Lizzie Mottram, Sophie Stephenson, Azra Raja (Reading Voluntary Action), and I had the opportunity to present the Community Wellness Outreach Project at NHS Confed in Manchester. We were able to share best practice, celebrate the project's success, and build valuable connections with NHS executives and public health leaders. This was a fantastic platform to raise the profile of our work and contribute meaningfully to national discussions around strategy, innovation, integration, and the future workforce.
Finally, NHS England has now published its 10-Year Plan, a landmark blueprint for transforming service delivery across the NHS. With a strong emphasis on moving care into the community and harnessing digital innovation, the plan is designed to improve access, experience, and integration across health and social care. We will be arranging a session shortly to unpack the key elements and offer practices an opportunity for open discussion and reflection once the plan has been fully reviewed.
